Satellite-Based AIS for Improved Navigation and Maritime Safety - STUDSAT-2
Main Article Content
Abstract
Automatic Identification System is designed to prevent water automobiles like ships and corvettes from colliding, by allowing them to know the exact location of ships at sea which has a danger of Collision over the track of vessel. AIS is the discrete method used by all Sailors for exchanging their co-ordinates using SOTDMA for collision avoidance over the track. This paper discusses AIS message transmission and Reception and how it can be used for realizing traffic control in Maritime. In this paper, we show how GMSK Modulation and NRZI encoding techniques can be used for transmission of a signal from AIS Transmitter in Satellite to the receiver in the ground station. The ground station thus will have an extensive database of such received AIS Messages which are decoded at ground station end system level
